>Week 30 – New York Trip

Β I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and got spoilt, but most importantly I hope everyone had a special time with family and friends!!
Christmas eve here was great fun. We had mostly C’s family over for dinner… It was really nice. Something here that is different from traditions at home… Santa leaves gifts under the tree, all the other gifts are put to one side. Santa also doesnt wrap gifts and doesnt leave them in boxes either. So Christmas eve once the kids were asleep, C, T, B,R and I sat up and took toys out of their boxes, etc.
Christmas day was different for me, sharing Christmas with children is the most awesome thing you can do. T came and woke me up…the kids had to wait at the top of the stairs for all the adults to get downstairs, so we could see their faces! πŸ™‚ my dad called me 5 mins after i woke up… πŸ™‚ it was a great start to my christmas morning! πŸ™‚ then the kids went nuts … and then we exchanged gifts. I got some really cute Christmas socks from the kids, an i-cat from T and C(the cutest thing) and some really nice bath stuff and a bag from B and R. I also got a years subscription to cosmo from Marion and a really nice necklace from my Aunt Janet and Uncle Tom, and very cool earrings from my grandparents. My mom sent me a really nice necklace too. All in all, it was a good Christmas! πŸ™‚ I phoned my mom and sister and spoke for ages with them. Also left voice mail messages for my gran and aunt.
Later that night I went with Marion to the airport to collect her sister who flew in from Germany to visit.
On tuesday morning we took a bus into New York City! We also stopped in New Jersey. When we got into New York we took the subway to our hotel…which was actually a youth hostel. It was surprisingly nice and clean and proffesional and stuff!! πŸ™‚

Then we headed down to Time Square. We went to the TKTS office..which is where you can get cheaper tickets for Broadway shows, etc. People line up there for hours to get tickets. We got there very late so there was no line, but we still managed to get some tickets for the ‘Christmas Spectacular’ show at Radio City, featuring the Radio City Rockettes! They’re world famous dancers. So then we walked around Time Square a little … I bought a hoodie from The Hard Rock Cafe. We got some dinner. We also got a deal to go to a spa at the Lombardy Hotel on Wednesday and get a hair cut, manicure, eyebrow wax and a facial for $60. Then we headed to the show…it was AMAZING!!!! The professionalism of it all…and the sets where so amazing!!!! Awesome awesome awesome!!!! πŸ™‚ (P.S: THE PICTURE IS OF RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL)
After that we went to check out the Rockerfeller Christmas tree..which is huge!!
Then we headed back to the hotel.

The next day we got some starbucks and headed to our spa appointment. Spent the morning getting pampered. It was fun!! πŸ™‚ We checked out the Disney Store and Trump Towers. Then we went to central park and went on a carriage ride…very cool! πŸ™‚ We then went into Greenwich Village and walked around a litte. Found the cutest little store! www.pylones-usa.com We went for dinner to an Italian restuarant which specialises in vegeterian and gluten free food! They had gluten free pizza and pasta and even gluten free beer!! πŸ™‚ We had some pizza and then headed home. I then went to starbucks with Lyndell and her friend Cara. (for those of you who dont remember, Lyndell is a very good friend of mine who I went to school with, and she au pairs in New York, I stayed with her during my last trip to NYC. It was so good to catch up with her! Seeing an old friendly face is the most comforting thing!! πŸ™‚
On thursday Marion, Sabine and I headed to Ground Zero. (after having breakfast at Dunkin’ Donuts) All along the fence there they have pictures up, of people on that day, etc. And there’s a timeline of what happened throughout the day. It’s really sad and real. Seeing and hearing about it all from another country, makes it seem unreal and only when you come face to face with what it must’ve been like that day…only then does it become real!
After that we headed to the bottom of the island to get the ferry accross to the statue of liberty…but while we were waiting in the crazy long line to get tickets, they made an announcement that the tickets for that day were sold out. So we headed over to the United Nations. Once we got through security, we checked out the line for the guided tours, and decided that we didnt really have enough time to wait…so we left and took some pictures of the Brooklyn Bridge.
We then headed back to Time Square and bought some more souviners. I got an Mtv mug from the Mtv store, an M&M key ring, toothbrush and some M&M’s from M&M world. Then we headed back to the hotel, got our bags and some dinner and caught our bus home.
When I got back my computer was waiting for me! So….I have it back now.
Friday night Marion, Sabine and I went to the mall and had dinner, shopped and saw DeJaVu…a really good movie!!
Saturday I chatted to my sister and some friends!! for the first time in ages…it was good! πŸ™‚ After dinner I played family cranium (the game i bought the kids for christmas) with the family…which was very fun! πŸ™‚ Then Marion and Sabine came over and we watched step up…yet again! πŸ™‚
Today… I’m taking things easy. Tonight we’re just going to hang out here. Play some games, get into the hot tub, have some drinks and watch Dinner for one. (which my host family have never seen before!) I hope everyone has/had a really great memorable New Years eve and may 2007 bring everyone much love!! πŸ™‚
Take care!
Love Bon
